In France today, more than a third of secondary school girls stay at home during their period.

Règles élémentaires

Règles Élémentaires is the first French association to combat menstrual insecurity and the taboo surrounding menstruation. Its mission is to enable all people to experience their periods in the best possible conditions, and to ensure that menstruation is no longer a hindrance to their daily lives

This also applies to schools. According to a series of Opinion Way surveys, more than a third of secondary school girls choose not to go to school during their period. Menstruating at school is a source of stress for 80% of girls, due to various factors such as the absence of garbage cans, toilet paper, soap or protection, as well as teasing from fellow students and a lack of awareness of menstrual pain among the entire educational community.

Menstruating at school is a source of stress and inequality.

Should we be satisfied with this situation?

Yesterday, on the occasion of International Girls' Day, Règles Élémentaires sought to raise awareness of this issue and support teachers and educational staff in creating school environments conducive to the management of menstruation.

The awareness-raising campaign, aimed at breaking the taboos surrounding menstruation in the school environment, consists of :

- A digital poster campaign (DOOH) highlighting key data from the Opinion Way survey.

- The creation of a liaison booklet including absence tickets for menstruation with reasons to tick: pain, shame, mockery and unsuitable toilets.

The idea is to underline, in a provocative way, that having to create this type of notebook would mean being collectively satisfied with the status quo.

The campaign also unveiled the results of the "Rules at School" Barometer on Wednesday, October 11.
