More Than a Test Drive
By asking people to give a recharge instead of winning one, BMW turned a promotional contest into a movement driven by generosity and human stories.
The Belgian EV market was stagnating. Despite strong products and an established activation, BMW’s Tournée Électrique had reached a plateau at 5,009 entries. The challenge was to drive stronger consideration and significantly increase participation without increasing the media budget.
Instead of turning the activation into another prize giveaway, we reframed it as an act of generosity. The campaign shifted from "Want to win?" to "Who deserves a recharge?", inviting people to nominate someone who deserved a personal recharge in life. This emotional approach transformed participation into a meaningful and shareable action.
Using the exact same budget and media channels, we redesigned the user journey around nomination and sharing. A social-first campaign on Meta and Instagram directed audiences to a dedicated landing page where they could nominate someone deserving of a recharge. Every nomination encouraged organic sharing, turning human stories into amplification and extending reach beyond paid media.
The campaign generated 12,753 entries, representing a 155% increase versus the previous edition on an identical budget. Cost per entry dropped by 95% to just €0.38, while the click-to-entry conversion rate reached 91%. Beyond performance, the campaign generated authentic stories from caregivers, patients and families, creating stronger brand affinity and proving that a simple human insight can dramatically outperform a traditional promotional mechanic.
