Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment & Targets

Mediaplus Group UK became a carbon neutral organisation in 2022, three years ahead of our original target. We have taken multiple actions to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, and offset any remaining emissions through certified Gold Standard projects on an annual basis. We are committed to becoming an accredited net zero organisation by 2030.

Current Emissions Footprint

Current Year: Jun 24 – Jul 25
Scope 1: 0
Scope 2: 0
Scope 3: 114.9

Total tCO2e per FTE: 0.68

Scope 1: Zero as no direct emissions produced.

Scope 2: Zero as our energy tariff is provided by 100% renewable sources.

Scope 3: 114.9 tonnes generated through a mixture of staff commuting, business travel, homeworking and waste disposal.

The Scope 3 emissions were offset through two Gold Standard projects; the funding of a gender responsive safe water project in Uganda and the planting of biodiverse forests in Panama.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Our ambitions and goals are in-line with the IPA’s Climate Change Charter and the Ad Association’s Ad Net Zero commitment, which we are signatories of. In the short-term we have used offsetting scheme, Gold Standard, established by WWF, which supports hundreds of ethical projects and effective solutions to offset our remaining carbon footprint.

Our internal Green Team have also implemented a number of initiatives to decrease the company’s environmental impact and improve employee engagement, including:

  • Moving our websites to green servers
  • Made vegetarian the default food choice for internal lunches
  • Switched to organic milk and recycled kitchen products such as kitchen roll
  • Recycled our used coffee beans through a B Corp accredited company called First Mile
  • Audited all processes to reduce paper usage
  • Restricting aircon access to avoid energy wastage
  • Providing eco-friendly sanitary products through B Corp Natracare
  • Changed to a green stationery company where all stationery is recycled
  • Reduced mandatory office days to reduce our commuting carbon footprint
  • Changed office electricity plan to 100% renewable sources
  • Signed up to the Government’s carbon neutral plan
  • Offsetting the carbon of business flights, through 80% carbon offsetting projects and 20% sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) as an alternative to fossil fuels
  • Using behavioural science to change societal norms in the office such as changing ‘general waste’ signs to read ‘landfill’ to better highlight where the waste will end up
  • Sharing employee quizzes which along with other actions resulted in improving our recycling rate from 62% to 76%
  • Creating a Best Practice Policy for Virtual Work to extend environmental stewardship when homeworking
