Jacob Olvik (1998, Gothenburg, Sweden) is a designer and artist based in Amsterdam. Having graduated from the DesignLAB department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2026, he now runs an independent design studio producing small collections and limited series of collectible design pieces.
Olvik’s practice explores objects as vessels for storytelling. Drawing on familiar cultural references, he builds speculative worlds around his objects, often placing these references slightly out of context or distorting them to provoke questions and discussion.
This approach also extends to his choice of materials and techniques. “I like to consider their functional, historical and social implications – what do they communicate and what might it mean to apply them in a contemporary context?”
Olvik is also co-founder of OBJECTS ON LIGHT, a design exhibition dedicated to lighting, bringing together contemporary designers from across the Netherlands – set to return for its second edition in February 2027.
