2023 is the year when generative AI and Human design meet on a broad global scale. The goal was to capture this moment in time and create an holistic global view of how designer and artist use AI tools for their design process.

The main challenge was solving a paradox: Can we create an identical container for every artist allowing an unbiased exploration that is at the same time absolutely bespoke uniquely designed for each artist reflecting their identity and background. Creating 101 immersive spaces that are formally identical while being entirely unique designs. 

At its core: a giant cloud of 101 identical cubes to create a comparable container for every participating artist. With this foundational framework, we also created 101 entirely unique spaces based on the identity of each artist. The inside of each cube is generated by 2 overlapping extruded shapes, the flag of their country and their initial, designed in 101 dedicated fonts. Here we find the final artwork, the promo as well as further information about the artist and their video diary. In the center of each cube an organic unstable black mass – the creative mind, housing the iterative process. The 101 cubes create a reactive sculpture that transforms into a shop where the user can enter the shop by selecting a color spectrum. Finally a video archive based on video analytics like unique facial expressions.

101 artists from around the world participated and share their vision as well as their process of collaborating with AI tools in design. Entering a kaleidoscope of visual expression. The ADC 101+1 enables design enthusiasts around the world to explore not only practical applications of AI designed visuals but also dive deep into the process behind it. It creates the unique opportunity to learn and engage with 101 creative minds from all cultures, disciplines and backgrounds. Unbiased and totally open.
